Joining Phoenix Theatre
Everyone who wants to join Phoenix Theatre has to audition for us. Please don't be nervous - we're not looking for exceptionally talented divas!
The audition will include singing a song of your choice. If you have a song that you would like to sing, bring the sheet music with you, but scores from well-known musicals will be provided if you need inspiration. You will then read a page from a script with an existing Phoenix cast member. Everyone will be given plenty of time to read the dialogue through before actually reading it out.
After saying all that though, don’t worry, it’s all very informal!
At the audition, we will explain a bit more about Phoenix Theatre, but below are some main points to bear in mind:
- We don't charge a membership fee or for costumes / script hire etc. However, you will be expected to sell tickets for the show - generally a quota of 20 tickets. We will give you lots of help in selling these, but bear in mind that you only need to find 10 people who want to come, as people generally don't go to the theatre alone. We have found that organising large groups of work colleagues / mums at the school gate / friends is the easiest way to sell your quota.
- Phoenix Theatre’s main rehearsal is on Sunday afternoons at Ferryhill Church but we also rehearse, especially as we get nearer to the week of the show, on Monday and Wednesday evenings. You would need to be available for rehearsals on these days.
- Phoenix Theatre prides itself on being a friendly, welcoming company with no cliques.
- You are auditioning to join the cast and not for specific parts in our next show.
- The number of spaces available varies, depending on the availability of our existing cast.
- Our next set of auditions will be after our production of ‘Sweeney Todd’ in March 2009.
- Membership of Phoenix Theatre is only for people who have left school. If you are still at school, please read the Phoenix Youth Theatre pages.
