Judging Rock Challenge
February 2009

Liz Milne from Phoenix Theatre was thrilled to have been chosen to be a judge for Rock Challenge 2009 at the AECC.

Rock Challenge is a unique and exciting opportunity for schools to take part in a dance, drama and design spectacular where the young people are the stars. While the result is a professional event staged in some of the UK’s top venues, the main aim of the Rock Challenge is to encourage participants to have fun while enjoying a 100% drug-free experience.
Over 380 schools and 23,000 students will compete in 47 Rock Challenge and Junior Rock Challenge shows across the UK in 2009. Teams as small as 10 or as large as 140 students plan an eight-minute performance around a theme of their choice, set to commercially available music and bring it to one of our local shows held throughout the nation.

The judges for the Rock Challenge are drawn from the entertainment, education and performing arts industries.

Liz was impressed by the standard of work and congratulates all the teams that took part in this year's event.

1950s Housewife Raises £750 for Charity
August 2009

Jennie Milne was one of 2,400 people to be chosen to take part in Antony Gormley's One & Other Project, where a different person stands on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square every hour, 24 hours a day, for 100 days. She was one of 207 participants from Scotland who were chosen from the over 34,000 applications that were received for the project.

Participants could choose to do anything during their hour on the plinth, as long as it was legal. Jennie's hour was on Thursday 27th August at 11am and she spent her time dressed as a fifties housewife and throwing handmade, felt cupcakes into the crowd.
She used her hour to raise money for Grampian Women's Aid and managed to raise a huge £750 for this charity. Her hour can been watched on her plinther profile.

The film is due to be broadcast on Sky One in Easter 2010.
